Get in Touch With Your Wild Side on Your Next Vacation

When you’re on vacation, it’s tempting to lie on the couch and binge-watch Netflix, but you already spend all your working hours sitting down inside. Shake up your time off by doing one of these active and enjoyable pastimes.

Boating

Take to the high seas by purchasing or renting your own boat. If you’re new to boating, ask a friend to show you the ropes or pay for lessons with a professional. Then, grab your family and some snacks and spend the day on the water. Don’t forget some boat maintenance accessories, a radio, and lifejackets in case of an emergency.

Camping

If you get seasick easily or don’t like the beach, consider taking a camping trip. Find a tent at your local outdoor goods store or rent a pop-up camper for the weekend. Research your location thoroughly before you go so that nothing takes you by surprise. For example, a lot of national parks don’t have cell service, and many require you to store food in a bear bag or your car to keep away wild animals. To take things up a notch, pack all your supplies into one pack and go backpacking for the weekend.

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing gyms are fun, but they’re nothing like scaling a real cliff. Have an experienced climber teach you how to make your own set-ups, and learn about different climbing techniques. Spend your vacation climbing to new heights in the mountains near you, or take a road trip to a climbing site far away from you.

Burn some extra calories, soak in the sunshine, and enjoy nature on your next vacation by participating in one of these outdoor activities. Don’t be afraid to try something new or get out of your comfort zone. Even if it’s not your new favorite pastime, you’ll make memories and discover hidden strengths.
