WeRide announced a global insurance partnership programme that is intended to support the rollout of autonomous-driving services across its existing markets in China, Southeast Asia and the Middle East, as well as upcoming launches in Europe.

Program structure and coverage

The initiative pairs leading insurers from both international and Chinese markets with WeRide’s autonomous-driving technology and operational know-how.

Designed for diverse regulatory environments, the scheme will co-develop insurance covering the full lifecycle of Level-4 vehicle operations. It includes motor liability, commercial general and product liability, together with privacy and cybersecurity risk protection.

Long-term partnerships, centralised insurance pools and larger fleet scales are expected to boost insurance efficiency and improve unit economics for the autonomous fleet.

Key partners in Singapore and China

Allianz Insurance Singapore ranks as the third-largest motor insurer in Singapore by gross written premiums as of Q2 2026 and was the first to insure a fully driverless vehicle through WeRide’s Robobus service at Sentosa.

The insurer later extended coverage to WeRide robotaxis operating with Grab’s Ai.R autonomous shuttle in Punggol. By October 2026, the Ai.R service had logged more than 13,000 unique riders and over 135,000 kilometres of autonomous mileage.

Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance Company of China, one of the country’s largest property-and-casualty insurers, has built locally compliant solutions for robotaxi operations in China and the Middle East, covering Beijing, Guangzhou, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

The partnership underpins the firm’s deployments through its own platform, WeRide Go, and through third-party mobility providers such as Uber and TXAI.

Executive comments

Jennifer Li, CFO and Head of International at WeRide, said, “Our partnerships with leading insurers reflect the strength of WeRide’s technology. Insurance is an important part of the infrastructure needed to bring autonomous driving to scale globally, and this programme strengthens that foundation as we expand into more markets.”

Ong Bi Ying, Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Insurance Singapore, added, “As the first insurer in Singapore to cover a fully driverless autonomous vehicle, Allianz has been at the forefront of understanding and managing the unique risks that come with this transformative technology. Our partnership with WeRide reflects our commitment to enabling innovation responsibly. By co-developing insurance solutions tailored to autonomous vehicle operations, we are helping to build the trust and safety infrastructure that Singapore’s smart mobility future demands.”

Hequn Shi, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Ping An P&C Insurance, said, “As China’s autonomous driving industry goes global, there is an urgent need for matching globalised insurance coverage. This collaboration represents an important practice for Ping An P&C Insurance to support the outbound expansion of China’s autonomous driving industry through its ‘technology + insurance’ services. We aim to leverage insurance’s role in risk identification, loss compensation, and risk mitigation, helping China’s autonomous driving technology achieve safe and steady commercial operations in global markets.”

Fleet scale and future markets

WeRide currently runs one of the world’s largest autonomous fleets, with roughly 3,600 vehicles worldwide, including more than 1,800 robotaxis, operating in thirteen countries and over 60 cities.

The company plans to broaden the insurance programme to additional markets and partners. It will also test tailored approaches to insurance protocols, pricing and coverage models for autonomous vehicles, including forthcoming deployments in Europe.
