Nexteer Automotive has inaugurated an assembly plant in Camaçari, Brazil, to supply steering systems for BYD’s local vehicle manufacturing operations. Situated roughly 10 kilometers from BYD’s existing facility in the same city, the new site will assemble column-assist electric power steering (CEPS) systems for vehicles manufactured in Brazil. The operation will handle final assembly and logistics, relying on components supplied through Nexteer’s global production network.

This expansion reinforces Nexteer’s footprint in Brazil, where it already maintains plants in Porto Alegre and Porto Real. The company states the investment “enhances supply chain responsiveness and operational efficiency while providing localised support for BYD’s vehicle production in the region”. Nexteer serves major automakers such as Ford, General Motors, Stellantis, Toyota, and Volkswagen, offering electric and hydraulic power steering solutions, chassis software, and steer-by-wire technology. The new plant supports Nexteer’s approach of local production to shorten delivery times and deepen partnerships with clients.

Jeferson Oliveira, Nexteer’s Brazil country director, described the facility as essential for supporting customers through localized manufacturing. He emphasized that its proximity to BYD’s operations would boost efficiency and responsiveness while upholding quality standards. The project follows Nexteer’s recent establishment of a 40,000-square-meter plant in Liuzhou, China, which includes production lines, research laboratories, and testing facilities. The Liuzhou site, spanning more than 40,000 m², houses state-of-the-art production lines, dedicated research and development zones, fully equipped laboratories, an on-site test track, an employee centre and a range of ancillary facilities that support continuous innovation.
