The Genesis GV60 Magma, an electric crossover producing around 650 horsepower, is now available for passenger laps around Germany’s Nürburgring circuit. The vehicle joins the existing Track Taxi program, which currently uses Genesis G70 3.3T saloons that have completed more than 1,300 laps of the Nordschleife since 2024. Those G70s will not be retired, but the addition of the GV60 Magma will give them a break from the relentless track duty.

Passenger rides can be booked now, allowing enthusiasts to experience the high-performance electric crossover before it goes on sale in Europe later this year. The program lets people ride shotgun in a vehicle that Genesis says represents the next phase of its Magma performance brand.

How to book and what it costs

Tickets for a lap in the front passenger seat start at €140, which works out to roughly £120. For those looking to bring family or friends along, two rear-seat passengers can be added at an extra cost. The company also offers track taxi vouchers, should someone need a gift idea for the petrolhead in their life.

The GV60 Magma uses dual electric motors to produce 650hp and 583lb ft of torque. With Boost mode engaged, the all-wheel-drive crossover accelerates from 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds. Reaching 124mph from a standing start takes 10.9 seconds, and the vehicle has a top speed of 165mph. Michelin Pilot Sport 5S tires come as standard equipment, which should provide plenty of grip through the circuit’s 73 corners over its 12.944-mile length.

Peter Kronschnabl, managing director of Genesis Motor Europe, said the launch of the Track Taxi Nordschleife in 2024 was an important milestone for the brand. “Introducing GV60 Magma to the programme is the next chapter in our growth strategy as we continue to invest across Europe,” Kronschnabl said. “Now, fans and customers can experience the emotion and precision of Genesis’ exceptional all-electric performance on one of the world’s most demanding racetracks.”

The expanded taxi program is the latest effort by Genesis to promote its Magma performance lineup. Earlier this year, the company entered the World Endurance Championship, which included racing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

It remains to be seen how the electric crossover will hold up to repeated hot laps around the punishing circuit, given the thermal demands placed on battery systems during sustained high-speed driving. The existing G70s have proven durable, but electric powertrains face different challenges when pushed hard for multiple consecutive laps. The GV60 Magma’s real-world endurance on track will become clearer once it accumulates more miles in passenger service.

Genesis has not announced specific plans for which markets will receive the GV60 Magma first, though the company confirmed it will go on sale in Europe later this year. The vehicle is part of a broader push by the Hyundai-owned brand to establish itself as a player in the performance EV space, using the Nürburgring as a marketing tool rather than just a development venue.
