In Uzbekistan, Kia has launched the Sonet Prime, a refreshed iteration of its Sonet SUV, featuring updated aesthetics, larger displays, and enhanced features. Priced from UZS 269,900,000 (Rs 22.17 lakh), this model will be sold alongside the existing Sonet, which starts at UZS 199,900,000 (Rs 16.42 lakh). Both variants are locally assembled at the ADM Jizzakh facility using CKD kits.

The Sonet Prime is offered exclusively in the Prestige trim, while the pre-facelift version remains available in five configurations. The Prime designation distinguishes the updated model from its predecessor, providing buyers with a choice between the more affordable current Sonet and the newer, feature-rich option.

Exterior Styling

The Sonet Prime in Uzbekistan adopts the design language of the facelifted model available in India, featuring a Tiger Nose grille, sleek headlamps, angular Star Map LED DRLs, and connected LED tail lamps. However, modifications to the bumpers and fog-lamp enclosures give it a distinct appearance.

At the front, vertically arranged fog lamps are housed in tall enclosures at the bumper’s outer edges. A prominent silver skid-plate-style insert frames the lower air intake, while silver accents along the grille’s lower edge provide contrast.

Interior Features

Inside, the Sonet Prime features a left-hand-drive layout and significant technological enhancements compared to the older local model. A 10.25-inch touchscreen replaces the previous eight-inch unit, while a matching 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster replaces the analog gauges.

Kia has redesigned the front-seat backrests and extended the rear seat cushion by 21 mm. These updates accompany features such as artificial-leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, and an electric sunroof.

Additional amenities include keyless entry, push-button start, wireless phone charging, cruise control, a reversing camera, and a Bose audio system. Ambient lighting enhances the cabin’s aesthetic. Safety features comprise six airbags and driver-assistance systems like forward collision avoidance, driver attention warning, and lane-related assistance.

Engine and Transmission

The Sonet Prime is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated MPI petrol engine delivering 115 PS and 144 Nm, it is paired with a CVT driving the front wheels, achieving a claimed 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 10.3 seconds.

The pre-facelift Sonet retains the manual transmission option, further differentiating the two models. By offering both versions, Kia aims to broaden the Sonet’s appeal in Uzbekistan across various price segments.

Meanwhile, Kia is developing the next-generation Sonet for India and other markets, expected to debut in 2027. Internally designated QY2E, this model is anticipated to introduce significant updates to styling, cabin technology, and safety. A strong-hybrid powertrain is also planned, though it is likely to arrive after the initial launch.

The Uzbekistan-spec Sonet measures 4,120 mm in length, 1,790 mm in width, and 1,642 mm in height, with a 2,500 mm wheelbase. It has a ground clearance of 205 mm and a boot capacity of 392 litres, riding on 16-inch wheels. The older model’s higher variants featured a smaller 4.2-inch MID, showing the Prime’s technological advancements.
