Maruti Suzuki Baleno Leads September Sales Growth

Maruti Suzuki’s Baleno dominated September 2026 car sales with 25,392 units sold, while the manufacturer claimed six spots in the top 10. The combined sales of India’s top 10 models reached 191,332 units, marking a 15.45% increase from the 165,725 units recorded in September 2025. This represented a volume gain of 25,607 units. Compared to August 2026, total sales rose 4.53%, adding 8,295 units to the 183,037 units sold that month.
The Baleno led the rankings, followed by Tata’s Nexon and Punch, both surpassing 20,000 units. Maruti Suzuki secured six entries, Tata Motors had two, and Hyundai and Mahindra each contributed one. The figures for Nexon, Punch, and Creta include their electric variants, while Scorpio sales combine the Classic and N models.
The recently refreshed Baleno achieved 25,392 units, nearly doubling its September 2025 total of 13,173 units. Its growth rate of 92.76% translated to an additional 12,219 units—the largest volume increase and highest percentage rise among the top 10. The Baleno alone accounted for 13.27% of the combined September sales.

Tata’s Nexon ranked second with 20,456 units, a 9.38% decline from 22,573 units the prior year. The Punch followed closely with 20,333 units, up 27.95% from 15,891 units. Only 123 units separated the two Tata models. Maruti’s Fronx placed fourth with 19,282 units, reflecting a 40.06% increase from 13,767 units. The WagonR completed the top five with 18,835 units, up 22.40% from 15,388 units.
The Dzire dropped to sixth with 17,754 units, marking an 11.40% year-over-year decline, the steepest among the top 10. Hyundai’s Creta followed with 17,657 units, down 6.38%. The Swift recorded 17,399 units, a growth of 11.91%, while Mahindra’s Scorpio sold 17,313 units, down 5.76%. The Ertiga rounded out the list with 16,911 units, posting a 39.59% increase from September 2025.
When comparing August 2026 to September 2026, five models grew while five declined. The Baleno again led with a 61.26% increase, gaining 9,646 units, a rise larger than the overall net gain of 8,295 units across the top 10. This offset declines in other models. The Nexon grew 10.99% from 18,431 units, while the Punch fell 4.63% from 21,320 units. The Fronx saw a modest 2.95% increase, whereas the WagonR and Dzire declined 6.67% and 3.61%, respectively. The Creta improved 8.40%, and the Scorpio rose 11.15%. The Swift experienced the largest monthly drop at 12.27%, losing 2,433 units, followed by the Ertiga with an 8.67% decrease.
