Porsche builds unique 911 Turbo S for Australia
Porsche Cars Australia has produced a unique 911 Turbo S to mark 75 years of the iconic German brand’s presence in the country. Dubbed the Porsche 911 Turbo S Land Down Under, this one-of-a-kind supercar’s specification and presentation are the result of a collaboration with Porsche Sonderwunsch, the Style Porsche design team and Sydney-based contemporary artist, Werner Bronkhorst.
Settings and the Southern Hemisphere Sky
The car features dual Chromaflair colour gradient paintwork and elements inspired by the country’s settings and “the distinct character of the Southern Hemisphere sky.” Applied by hand, the exterior finish transitions from “the warm amber tones (Terra Australis Red) of an outback sunset to pale blue (Southern Cross Blue) as day fades into night.”
According to the company, Chromaflair pigments use ultra-thin flakes to create a dynamic colour-shifting effect that changes with light and viewing angle. Each flake features an opaque, reflective aluminium core encased in a glass-like transparent layer, whose varying thickness produces different perceived colours. Applied across seven layers by hand, the finish required over 300 hours of craftsmanship.
The script “See ya later mate” has been applied to the rear of the car in a typeface developed by Bronkhorst. The message is only revealed when the rear wing extends, either via engagement of Sport Plus driving mode or auto-deployment at speeds above 80km/h.

Interior Details
The exterior theme continues inside with a combination of Dark Night Blue, Kalahari and Coolibah Brown leather trims, the latter conceived specifically for this project. The centres of the Adaptive Sports Seats Plus feature Bronkhorst’s distinctive brushstroke style with each of 14,417 perforations arranged to form a “coherent visual pattern.”
The roof lining features an embroidered Southern Hemisphere constellation map showing the night sky as it appeared over Uluru in 1951, the year Porsche first arrived in Australia. After its world premiere today in Sydney, the 911 Turbo S Land Down Under will embark on a “curated journey” to select locations across the country.
While the official tour highlights the artistic collaboration and regional celebration, the practical reality of such a bespoke vehicle suggests that the car’s public appearances will likely be limited to major automotive events. Given the thousands of hours spent on the paint and leather work, it is probable that the vehicle will spend the majority of its life in climate-controlled storage when not on display, serving more as a museum piece than a daily driver.
