Kia Sonet Redesign Spotted: Sharper Look, Tech Upgrades

Kia’s 2027 Sonet has been spotted in South Korea, offering a glimpse of its updated design and features. The vehicle, codenamed QY2E, is a key part of Kia’s strategy to reach 410,000 annual sales by 2030. This ambitious target shows the Sonet’s importance in Kia’s global lineup, particularly in competitive markets like India and South Korea.
Design Evolution: Sharper and Sportier
The second-generation Sonet adopts Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy, blending sharp, geometric shapes with smooth, organic forms. The side profile showcases angular window frames and a gently sloped roofline. Notable updates include a revised C-pillar, sharper dual-tone ORVMs, and squared wheel arches. The new design language aligns closely with Kia’s newer models, such as the EV3, EV9, and the new Seltos, ensuring a cohesive brand identity across its lineup.
The alloy wheels feature a sportier design, likely in 17 or 18-inch sizes, adding to the vehicle’s dynamic appearance. At the rear, the Sonet sports a refreshed tail lamp design, with an interconnected setup and sharper aesthetics. Revisions are also expected across the boot lid and rear bumper, enhancing the overall sharper design. The front fascia is expected to be completely redesigned, featuring a taller, squarer grille and vertical LED headlight clusters, complemented by distinctive Star Map LED DRL running strips.
Interior and Tech Upgrades
Inside, the new Sonet may boast a curved panoramic display, combining two 12.3-inch high-definition screens for a seamless infotainment and instrument console experience. This is a significant upgrade from the current model’s flat, dual-screen setup. The steering wheel could be a sleek two-spoke or double-D-cut multi-function design, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality. Kia is also focusing on sustainability, potentially offering bio-PU leatherette and recycled fabrics, reflecting the brand’s commitment to eco-friendly materials.

The redesigned HVAC control bar dynamically toggles between audio and climate controls, adding a layer of modern convenience. For drivers, the Sonet might introduce a 10-way power-adjustable seat with memory, ensuring personalized comfort. The current model’s premium features, such as ventilated seats and a Bose audio system, are expected to continue, alongside potential additions like a dual-pane panoramic sunroof and an advanced audio setup.
Safety and Powertrain Enhancements
Safety is a key focus, with the Sonet transitioning to Kia’s K1 platform and potentially offering Level 2 ADAS. This builds on the current model’s 10 autonomous safety features, including 6 airbags and a 360-degree camera. The standard safety kit is full, featuring electronic stability control, hill assist control, vehicle stability management, blind view monitor, front and rear parking sensors, all-wheel disc brakes, and a 360-degree camera.
These enhancements position the Sonet as a leader in safety within its segment. Under the hood, the 2027 Sonet will retain existing engine options, with a hybrid variant planned for 2029. This hybrid powertrain is expected to deliver 140 PS of combined power, joining similar options in the Kia Seltos and Carens, thereby expanding powertrain choices for consumers.
