VinFast Prepares Indian Launch with 50 Dealers

VinFast is expanding into India’s electric two-wheeler market with at least two new models, after securing deals with over 50 dealers across the country. The Vietnamese automaker, already active in India’s electric car segment, has filed design patents for the Viper and Rasad scooters, both tailored for the Indian market. The Rasad is particularly notable as an entirely new design, not sold in any other market where VinFast operates.
The company plans to open more than 50 showrooms in 15 states and union territories, focusing on major cities where demand for electric two-wheelers is strongest. States included in the initial rollout are Delhi, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and West Bengal. While an exact launch date hasn’t been confirmed.
VinFast’s entry follows a sharp rise in India’s electric scooter sales, which hit 188,714 units in August 2026, a 131% year-over-year increase. The brand will compete directly with established players like Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube, Hero Vida, Ather Rizta, Ather 450, and TVS Orbiter. Official specifications for the Rasad have not been released.

VinFast’s approach contrasts with its mass-market strategy in Vietnam, where it dominates electric two-wheeler sales with over 43% market share. VinFast is expected to cover multiple segments, including the economy, mid-range and premium segments.
VinFast has already gained experience in India through its electric car business, so the rollout may progress quickly. The dealer agreements and patent filings indicate preparations are advanced.
India’s electric scooter market is already crowded, but VinFast’s entry adds another layer of competition. The lack of a confirmed launch date leaves room for speculation, but the dealer network and patent activity signal a near-term move.
